D Bar Thank you

The enticing smell of sizzling steak greeted Pryor High School students last week as they made their way to the cafeteria for a full fajita fiesta. Opaa! Food Management brought in Chef Rick to prepare the feast—featuring a very special ingredient: locally raised beef from D Bar Beef.

Pryor Public Schools is excited to announce that we have once again received the Oklahoma Farm to School Local Food for Schools Program Grant, totaling $25,000. This funding allows us to continue bringing high-quality, locally sourced foods directly to our students.

For this celebration, not only was the beef sourced locally—several sides and ingredients were, too. Students enjoyed fresh lettuce from Better Day Farm and dairy products from Hiland Dairy, both proud Oklahoma suppliers.

The Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food, and Forestry (ODAFF) recently shared that the Oklahoma Legislature allocated an additional $3.2 million to continue the Oklahoma Local Food for Schools Program (OKLFS). This program helps schools partner with in-state producers to purchase minimally processed foods such as meats, fresh fruits and vegetables, eggs, nuts, and dairy products.

Pryor Child Nutrition Director Amy Floch, who authored the grant, said the program is truly a win-win. Floch said that the grant benefits our schools and supports our local ranchers and producers. Floch noted that Pryor students receive fresh, nutritious meals and that our community partners receive direct support from Oklahoma schools.

Thanks to this continued partnership, our Tigers enjoyed a delicious meal—and a meaningful connection to the farms and families that help feed Oklahoma.
